Silkmen take point from Shakers

Sat 06 Dec, 08:45 PM

Macclesfield Town held on for a 1-1 draw at home with League Two rivals Bury after going down to 10 men on Saturday afternoon. The hosts might have taken the lead in the second minute when Simon Yeo out-muscled David Buchanan only to fire inches wide from 15 yards.

However, they took the lead two minutes later when Yeo flicked a header onto the crossbar for strike partner Martin Gritton to pounce from close-range.

But just seconds later Andy Bishop put Stephen Dawson in the clear and the midfielder completed a surging run with a powerful 15-yard finish.

The Silkmen had the best chance of the second half moments after the break when Yeo broke clear only to be denied once again by the athletic Wayne Brown.

The home side were then reduced to 10 men when youngster Matthew Flynn was sent-off for a second bookable offence. But Bury could only muster one real chance in the closing stages, Andy Morrell seeing his clever chip finger-tipped over the bar by Jon Brain.
