Hjorth wins Tour Championship
Sweden's Maria Hjorth won the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship by a stroke from Amy Yang in Florida.
Korean Yang suffered a quadruple-bogey on the third and also bogeyed the fifth to reach the turn five over for the round.
But three quick birdies on the way back put her back in contention, only for a bogey on the 17th to set her back.
She made a birdie putt on the 18th from about 15 feet to finish with a 74, forcing Hjorth to sink an eight-foot putt for a 72 to win the tournament with a four-under-par total.
“Every win is emotional for me,” said Hjorth, who earned her fourth victory on tour but first since becoming a mother last year. “But being a mother and coming back after giving birth is definitely something that I’ve been hoping for.
In-Kyung Kim shot 70 to finish in a tie for third alongside Cristie Kerr, who signed for a 73.
Laura Diaz and Na Yeon Choi shared fifth with the latter winning this year’s money title.
Only those six of 120 players finished below par for the tournament at Grand Cypress Golf Club as Yani Tseng became the first player from Taiwan to win LPGA player of the year.
Another Korean Jiyai Shin, who missed the 54-hole cut, will finish 2010 top of the world rankings.
