Millwall are set to beat off competition from League One rivals Port Vale to complete the signing of Manchester City midfielder Marc Laird. The 21-year-old has been on loan at Vale Park this season but Lions boss Kenny Jackett has swooped to take him to the Den, with a two-and-a-half-year deal set to be signed "in the next 24 hours".
A statement on the club's official website read: "Millwall hope to complete the signing of Manchester City midfielder Marc Laird on a two-and-a-half year contract within the next 24 hours."
If the Lions complete the deal as expected, Laird could come into contention to face Vale with Valiants boss Lee Sinnott conceding the midfielder is likely to snub his side for a move to the New Den.
He told Vale's official website: "I have had a phone call from his agent, who told me that it was 99.9% certain that Marc would be joining Millwall instead of Port Vale."
