Mullin rejects Shrews approach

Mon 07 Jan, 03:31 PM

Manager Gary Peters has confirmed that Shrewsbury's £75,000 bid to sign veteran Accrington striker Paul Mullin has broken down.Peters revealed fellow League Two outfit Stanley accepted the Shrews' bid for the 33-year-old striker toward the end of last week as chairman Roland Wycherley attempted to push through the deal in time for Saturday's defeat against Brentford.

"Our chairman wanted to find out how much they wanted and he spoke to the Accrington chairman and in those conversations they said they wanted £75,000 for Paul Mullin," Peters told the club's official website.

"With our chairman's enthusiasm and ambition for the club he was so determined to get a striker in for last Saturday that he agreed to pay that fee so we could talk to Paul and see if anything could go ahead.

"A fee was agreed and we've spoken to Paul about the possibility of a move and it won't be going ahead.

"In the long term I think it may be good that we haven't got Paul in but in the short term he would have done us a really good job - he's already scored 11 goals this season."
