Ligue 1 - Alonzo targets Premier League

Paris St Germain goalkeeper Jerome Alonzo says he will leave the capital club at the end of the season due to a lack of first team opportunities and has targetted the Premier League as his favoured destination.

The 35-year-old understudy to number one Mikael Landreau has not played a competitive game in 14 months and would like a new challenge, possibly in England, before he hangs up his gloves.

"Tomorrow, if Middlesbrough called me and offered a two-and-a-half-year contract, clearly I would go and see Paul [Le Guen, PSG coach] and Alain [Cayzac, PSG president]," he told L'Equipe and Le Parisien.

Alonzo's current deal with PSG expires at the end of the season and while he feels he has several years of playing left in him, he is aware he needs to move soon if he is to remain an attractive proposition.

"It's still possible for me to go on for another two years. It's out of the question that I retire in June," he added. "But I have to stay until May.

"Sometimes, it makes me stress - who is going to want a 35-year-old guy who hasn't played for 18 months?

"But I'm confident. A final challenge in Ligue 2 or abroad would suit me."

In the meantime, Alonzo remains available to Le Guen - whose side are struggling so far this season and who currently lie fifth bottom in Ligue 1 - should he be needed.

He added: "The coach knows that I am ready to play should for example Mikael fall ill one day.

"He must be happy with what I am doing on a daily basis. But there aren't many players in France who haven't played for 14 months despite not being injured or suspended.

"Living like this is not easy. It hurts me not playing in the cups."
