Ex-Ferrari boss: Alonso is best driver

Eurosport - Wed, 07 Jan 13:40:00 2009

Former Ferrari team boss Cesare Fiorio has claimed that Fernando Alonso is a better driver than Lewis Hamilton.

FORMULA 1 2008 Fernando Alonso Renault - 0

"In situations like this [with the raft of new technical and aerodynamic regulations for 2009], a team can gain an advantage over another because its engineers have had a hunch that turns out to work better," the 69-year-old reasoned. "In that context I have no doubts - I would prefer to have Alonso in my team, because for me he is still the best driver around."

Fiorio, the man who gave Alonso his F1 test debut with Minardi in 1999, added that an Alonso-Ferrari combination would give the entire field cause for concern.

"He is stronger even than Lewis Hamilton; the two are equal in terms of raw speed, but Fernando has a lower propensity to make mistakes. He's consistent, has a good rhythm inside the car and he's intelligent.

"He and Ferrari would represent an exceptional duo. In winning the constructors' world championship, Maranello showed that it had worked the best, both in the factory and at the races - but if you miss out on the drivers' title, perhaps the fault for that lies with the man in the cockpit."

Former F1 team owner Giancarlo Minardi echoed Fiorio's comments.

"It's undeniable that for Ferrari such a driver would be very useful.

"At the end of the day, he's the driver who up until now has given Hamilton the hardest time in equal equipment. He could beat him easily."

And that would be why LH finished equal runner up in 2007 and champion in 2008. ...when he had better equipment? LOL
That's one hell of a lot of luck over your first 2 seasons in F1, don't you think.- Especially when the dice were loaded.
Interesting that you agree with Fiorio. He said that Alonso was the only one to give Hamilton a hard time in equal equipment. Doesn't that mean that LH was in fact in front of FA?
I'm actually playing the devil's advocate here as I think FA is probably the more complete of the 2 at the moment.
But as you seem to enjoy provoking...

  4. Anybody who has been reading this topic all day will know all my posts have been pulled which I think is very convenient for forza Ferrari. I am pretty shocked actually I have used no offensive language we have been in conversation all day.

I put it to forza Ferrari that perhaps he is also Slim J based on posting patterns almost immediately another post popped up this time by kurtmagrigatt to change the subject.

I sincerely believe I forced forza Ferraris hand into bringing in to play another of his alias and subsequently checked this article Kubica realistic about BMW prospects Eurosport - Fri, 02 Jan 18:03:00 2009 posts 1 3 5 7 8 kurtmagrigatt last contribution it is the same person and it is Forza Ferrari talking to himself it reads and writes exactly like Forza Ferrari.

I love the way here he says oh I agree with you 100 percent forza oh but I support mclaren, it is just too coincidental for him to suddenly appear today and kurtmagrigatt is too similar to forza, why pop up now just as forza is being questioned about being slim j.

All my posts have been pulled that accused forza Ferrari of being Kurtmagrigatt and slim j

  11. Cesare Fiorio is right. It is not just about the pace, it might be similar to Hamilton's - can you count the mistakes Hamilton has done in his two years(plenty , and silly ones) and compare to Alonso's first two (any?). And I am saying it as Kimi fan...
