Ferrari has confirmed that it can offer engines to the Honda Formula One team following the Japanese manufacturer's exit from the sport.
Honda team boss Ross Brawn had earlier confirmed that he'd made contact with his former colleagues at Ferrari about procuring the famous Italian outfit's 2.4 litre V8 power plant in 2009, should Honda Racing F1 be rescued by a buyer.
A Ferrari spokesman confirmed Brawn's account, and said no deal has been reached yet.
"They have asked us whether we would be able to provide them with engines, and we said yes," said a spokesman for the team.
Ferrari supplied both the Toro Rosso and Force India teams with customer engines in 2008, but with Force India switching to Mercedes-Benz powerplants ahead of the forthcoming season the Scuderia will have spare capacity.

Looks like Bernard is addicted to copy and paste.

mouronroute: What? How exactly is commenting on the above a three week old story? At least the @#$% you used to peddle actually made some sense. Now you talk @#$% and are nonsensical.
Reading all theese posts the only thing i can gather is, ginger-gitt is one month behind the real news, get out ginger see the world , dont read tomorrows news in three weeks time the season will be over.
MARION or whatever name you're using these days, why can't you give your brain and everyone else a rest. I wish you would leave, you make a mockery of this site and any other you probably visit.
Your views are worthless at best. You really do need expert help.
By the way, your feeble attempt at coming across as a non English person is bordering on pathetic.
Happy new year, may your tv viewing rights be revoked.
ginger_git : I wouldn't trust either story right now . Basically , no team , no engines
The headline says that Ferrari will be supplying the former Honda team with engines.
The story says that they have told Ross they could provide them if needed.
So which is it? They CAN provide them if they are required, or they ARE providing them. I only want to express the difference as one is a certainty and one is an option. One means that the Honda team has found a buyer, one means they are still looking and are enhancing whats on offer. One means we have ten teams next season, while one means we might still be a team short.
No Sarg I don't think they do.
Nobody can be naieve enough to believe that "customer engines" are even close to being equal to the Team engines, can they????
Are we not ALL humans regardless of colour. I would have thought that the dog you having a go at right now is not too pleased.
The question is, would he be able to keep them if he starts beating Ferrari's own cars. I personally think not.
Ross wants the Torro Rosso ones
i'd like to see ross brawn back in the ferrari pit. he's been missed even more than schuey. the judgement of when to put on what tyres in changeable conditions was awful last season, and with the pitstop light fiasco cost felipe the title. ross's tactical nous in unparalleled in f1.
They can sell them the ones that were to be for Force India.
Or maybe they wouldn't be good enough. Ross would want better ones.
