Win for Fiva, but Leman top of standings
Canadian Brady Leman secured the FIS Ski Cross World Cup overall lead by the skin of his teeth under the lights of St. Johann – despite Swiss rival Alex Fiva’s victory on the night in Austria.
Leman’s second place in the third round of World Cup action was enough to propel him to the top of the overall standings with 184 points to his name while Fiva’s victory, and 100 points garnered, puts him second on 182.
Germany’s Daniel Bohnacker grabbed his best finish of the season to complete the podium while a poor evening – ending 14th - for previous overall World Cup leader, Russia’s Egor Korotkov saw him drop to third.
In the women’s event another Canadian, Kelsey Serwa, ended the evening on top of the World Cup pile but thanks in no real way to her efforts in St. Johann.
Serwa could only finish tenth but by virtue of her back-to-back wins in the opening two rounds of competition the 22-year-old stays on top with 226 points.
Much like Serwa, second-placed skier overall Sanna Luedi clung on to her spot despite a poor night’s work – finishing ninth. Victory in Austria went to French veteran Ophelie David, the 35-year-old rolling back the years to top the pile and leap to third in the World Cup standings.
Anna Woerner and Alizee Baron were second and third respectively behind David.
