Anderton: Not the end of the road yet

Thu 07 Feb, 05:45 PM

Bournemouth midfielder Darren Anderton has denied suggestions his career is under threat and is confident he will return "in the near future".The injured former England international last played in the defeat to Leeds on November 6 because of a double hamstring problem, but is confident a visit to Munich-based specialist Dr Hans Muller-Wohlfahrt has solved the problem.

He told the Bournemouth Echo: "I spent a few days with Dr Muller-Wohlfahrt at the end of last month and it seems to have helped. I'm jogging again and it's been okay. I'm improving but because I haven't jogged for seven or eight weeks, I don't really want to go over the top.

"I've had some good news for the first time in a few months and can start to push on. If everything goes well, I'll keep jogging for a few days and the sooner I get back in (to full training), the better. I can't say when that will be because I don't know how it's going to react to running every day. I do know that I can't go gung-ho at trying to get back."

Asked if the injury could spell the end of his career, Anderton replied: "I hope not and I'd rather people weren't talking like that! The road back to fitness is never nice and can be a real pain.

"I would certainly hope to be back playing again in the near future. Everything is up in the air a little at the moment and it's not worth thinking about anything apart from getting my hamstring strength back."
