Kaka no longer Real's top priority

Thu 07 Feb, 10:30 AM

Real Madrid president Ramon Calderon says signing brilliant Brazilian Kaka from AC Milan is not a priority for the Spanish giants. When Calderon took over at the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer of 2006 he stated that bringing Kaka to La Liga was his main aim.

And speculation was constant during most of 2007 that Kaka remained top of Real's shopping list.

But now Calderon says signing him isn't essential, with rumours suggesting that Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo is the number one summer target.

Calderon told Marca: "This is not the best time to talk about transfers. At the end of the season we will see.

"Any signing must fit three criteria, firstly that the coach and sport director want him, secondly that he fits the behaviour and philosophy of the club, and thirdly that he can help the team become better.

"With Kaka the first criteria is not met. I have not asked either (Bernd) Schuster or (Predrag) Mijatovic."

Real appear to be well on their way to a second consecutive La Liga title, currently leading Barcelona by six points with 16 games remaining.
