Colchester have revealed their annual accounts which show that the club made an operating profit of £2.4million for the year ending May 2007.The Us made the record figure in their first season in the Championship with increased match-day revenue and season-ticket sales.

The sale of defender Greg Halford to Reading and the compensation received from Hull for taking on then manager Phil Parkinson also played a big part in the healthy balance.

A statement on the club's official website read: "For the past two seasons since our promotion, the club has had to compete in an extremely competitive market within the Championship against clubs that enjoy attendences far in excess of the 6,000 capacity we have at Layer Road.

"The club in its endeavours will continue to strive for success and with the (new) stadium on the horizon...there is every reason to suggest that the future of this club can continue."
