Football fans have reacted angrily to a Premier League proposal to play one game a season abroad.

From 2010/11, teams could play an extra game in one of six cities in Asia, Australia and the USA.

But Eurosport-Yahoo! users were all but unanimous in their condemnation of the idea, saying it was another example of money coming before fans.

AGAINST

Paul S: This is absolute madness. Whoever came up with this idea should be taken to a scotland home game , in an england shirt & left on the terraces

Maboeln: Ridiculous idea. First we have to hand over our rules to FIFA, causing some absolute nonsense on the pitch, and now they want us to play elsewhere too? The Premiership belongs to England and is for English people. The last thing we want is overpaid players making the excuse that they now can't play because they're travel sick!

Duncan M: What a joke to even suggest playing a match abroad! Whilst I'm certain Liverpool v Man Utd would sell out any stadium, I doubt the economics of flying Wigan and Derby to LA and have them play in front of 34 people in some farmer's field would be beneficial.

Ad: Final nail in the coffin for what once was the working man's game. Billionaire foreigners with no respect for our clubs' histories. Accrington Stanley home games for me from now on.

m.lidgett: The clubs complain at the number of matches played so is this the first move to reducing the number of clubs in the Premiership? It won't be long before you can't play in the Premiership unless you can guarantee a minimum crowd of say 30,000. Isn't it a surprise that this sort of idea comes along with overseas ownership!!

Colm R: I think this is a stupid idea, I really don't think that the FA are putting the supporters' interests first, and I'm talking about those who attend matches week in week out! Ticket prices are high enough. but having to pay for plane tickets etc to play a league game thousands of miles away is unfair.

Roger H: Money money money, it's a rich man's world alright. How many more hairbrained schemes will the Premier League come up with? Having watched the England match last night, I think any profits made from this should somehow be pumped back into developing English youngsters so that we might be able to watch a national side we can be proud of.

JSS: Everything is run by third-rate executives who think 'globalisation'. They should think about this: Although we have clubs like Arsenal who hardly play a British player there is still a particular atmosphere which is part of the character of an English or Scottish game which you can only get by going to the ground and watching the actual game.

Merlin: Is it April Fools Day today or what? Complete madness.

cjcolemanmh: No wonder the England team are not playing as they used to. We need English football to be played in England. We must not let Premier clubs go abroad.

darren.thorne: Am I to assume this was an idea by the half brained F.A.? They seem to forget that should they move some matches abroad it's the local fans that support their team week in week out will be the ones who suffer. Maybe the F.A should rethink their positions and give them to someone who actually cares about ENGLISH football.

dca59c: there goes the season ticket. Why the hell should I pay for 20 matches if one of the games isn't even in the country? And you can guarantee the games played abroad won't be Birmingham versus Derby can't you. Once again its 'stuff the fans, let's go for the big bucks'.

account001.rm: Absolutely idiotic idea to have these fixtures count towards the Premier League and would be bad for the travelling fans too unless the club was subsidising trips significantly. I would be in favour of a worldwide league featuring the premier league clubs but as an additional over the summer rather than as part of the current premier league.

FOR

Karl G: It'll generate more money for the club of your choice (Spurs, in my case.) And say for example that your club is two points behind 4th place, with the last game to go. Both teams win that game. Then comes this overseas game, which your club wins, the other club doesn't. Meaning 4th place for you guys. Wouldn't you be happy? I know I would. It's not absolute madness, it's only ONE GAME a year.
