Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman believes he can earn himself a new contract at Selhurst Park after his season-long loan move to Leeds. The 33-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at the London club following the arrival of manager Neil Warnock in October.

Freedman, who has spent 10 years in two seperate stints at Selhurst Park, has recently taken up a coaching role under Warnock but feels his move to Elland Road could help him earn a new contract with Palace.

"I have decided to take this opportunity as I feel it has come at a good time and will give me a chance to prove my match sharpness," Freedman told the club's official website.

"My heart is still at Palace because you don't spend that amount of time there without having a love for the club, and if I do well at Leeds it means the door will be open in the summer to see me return.

"I have another year on my contract but I am looking forward to this opportunity but only time will tell whether it is the right decision."
