Freedman opts to make Leeds move

Fri 07 Mar, 11:00 AM

Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman has performed a dramatic U-turn after deciding to join Leeds on a season-long loan deal. The 33-year-old has made 19 appearances in the Eagles attack this term but has fallen down the pecking order following the arrival of manager Neil Warnock in October.

Freedman, who has spent 10 years in two separate stints at Selhurst Park, has recently taking up a coaching role under Warnock but feels his move to Elland Road could help him earn a new contract with Palace.

"I have decided to take this opportunity as I feel it has come at a good time and will give me a chance to prove my match sharpness," Freedman told the club's official website.

"My heart is still at Palace because you don't spend that amount of time there without having a love for the club, and if I do well at Leeds it means the door will be open in the summer and see me return.

"I have another year on my contract but I am looking forward to this opportunity but only time will tell whether it is the right decision."
