Burnley midfielder Alan Mahon is determined to return to first-team action and make a contribution to the club's promotion bid.Mahon has not featured for the Clarets for over two months due to a hamstring injury but he is approaching full fitness.

The Republic of Ireland international played 90 minutes in the reserves' win over Blackpool on Wednesday night and is edging closer to a first-team return.

"It's been a frustrating time. It was one of those injuries that niggled away at you and just wouldn't go away," said Mahon.

"But I've got a full game under my belt now and I just want to be in a position where I can play as many games as possible between now and the end of the season."
