Riggott in line for Potters debut

Fri 07 Mar, 12:45 PM

Chris Riggott is in line to make his Stoke debut in Saturday's Britannia Stadium clash with Burnley as Leon Cort struggles with an ankle knock.Cort is is still feeling the effects of the injury picked up against Preston last week, so Riggott - on loan until the end of the season from Middlesbrough - is in line to start alongside Ryan Shawcross in central defence.

Cort aggravated the injury in the 3-0 defeat to QPR and has missed two subsequent training sessions.

Rory Delap returns after a one-match ban and will come straight into the side in place of Glenn Whelan, who begins a two-game suspension after picking up 10 bookings this season.

Goalkeeper Steve Simonsen has injured his pelvis and is rated as doubtful for the clash so Carlo Nash could make his first start for the club after arriving on loan from Wigan.

Tony Pulis could be tempted into changes elsewhere following two successive defeats, with Paul Gallagher, Andy Wilkinson and Carl Dickinson all pushing for starts.

Dominic Matteo (foot) and Marlon Broomes (Achilles) both made their return to action for the reserves in midweek but neither are likely to make the squad.
