Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe has revealed his desire to bring former England manager Graham Taylor to the club.

McCabe is interested in employing a Director of Football to work alongside current manager Kevin Backwell, and told the Daily Mail that Taylor would be "top of my list".

McCabe added: "He'd be diplomatic, he wouldn't step on toes and he has great knowledge.

"We're looking for a younger Sir Bobby Robson."

63-year-old Taylor began his coaching career at Lincoln City when his playing career ended in 1972 and made his name at Watford and Aston Villa before a disappointing three-year stint as national team coach, during which England failed to qualify for both Euro 92 and the 1994 World Cup.

Taylor later returned for second spells at Watford and Villa, and has been working as a pundit for BBC Radio Five Live since leaving Villa Park for the second time in 2003.
