No moping over cup from Mowbray

Mon 07 Apr, 01:15 PM

Tony Mowbray has urged his West Brom players to quickly get over their FA Cup semi-final defeat to Portsmouth - and secure automatic promotion. The Baggies put up an admirable display at Wembley on Saturday but they lost out to a second-half Kanu goal.

Now Mowbray is looking for his Albion side to get their minds back on the Championship promotion bid.

West Brom have six games left and they are well placed, knowing that if they win their remaining matches they will be promoted.

"We have got to get back to work very quickly, we have six very important games to go and in football if you cannot take defeat on the chin and get going straight away you shouldn't be in the game because the games are coming thick and fast," Mowbray told Sky Sports News.

"You take the defeat, analyse it for a second or two and then you get on with the next game.

"The players are the same as managers, they know the games are coming - they are all fine and looking forward to the challenge.

"The good thing for us that we still have something to play for and we have six games to try and get enough points to get out of this league and make sure we are competing with the likes of Portsmouth week in, week out."

Mowbray is determined his side gain promotion this term and he has no qualms about doing it through the play-offs if he has to.

"In an ideal world we will get enough points to finish in the top two but we will be respectful of the teams around us, they all believe they have the opportunity," he said.

"We have to attack the next six games and it will not be through a lack of effort and determination if we don't get them, and if we have to go to Wembley again to get to the Premiership then we will relish that and look forward to it and hopefully be successful."

Mowbray takes his side to Blackpool on Tuesday and he is in no way underestimating the Tangerines.

"It is no good sitting back and moping, we have to be ready physically and emotionally," he said. "We are not playing little old Blackpool, we are playing a pretty good football team - the statistics show they have lost three out of 20 and that is quite formidable."
