Two-goal hero Scott Vernon wants Colchester to build on the derby win over Ipswich and attempt to stave off relegation for another week. The Us could have been consigned to the drop on Saturday, but a 2-0 win over their East Anglian rivals keeps them mathematically still in the division ahead of the trip to fellow strugglers Leicester.
Vernon, who was handed a rare start following an injury to Clive Platt, said: "I'm chuffed to bits.
"I'm thrilled to score the goals but it's a team game and we showed we can grind out a result.
"Now we have to take all of the good bits out of this performance and take them into the next game.
"We know we rode our luck at times but I thought that we deserved it."
