Odejayi Apologises For Miss

Mon 07 Apr, 11:09 AM

Kayode Odejayi has apologised for missing a glorious chance to bring Barnsley level against Cardiff in Sunday's FA Cup semi-final.

The Bluebirds were in front early on at Wembley, although Odejayi, who was the hero in the last round against Chelsea, wasted a golden opportunity to force extra-time.

Odejayi found himself in behind Cardiff's defence from Jamal Campbell-Ryce's thoughball, but the Nigerian hitman could only send the ball wide of the upright.

The 26-year-old was inconsolable following the full-time whistle and issued a swift apology to his team-mates, although they were having none of it and refused to single him out for criticism.

"When I went thought, I was really confident I would score," said Odejayi. "I tried to put it in the bottom right-hand corner, but unfortunately for me it didn't go in.

"I was really disappointed with that. I know I should have scored and when I can in I apologised to the lads. But they told me not to blame myself.

"It was not just down to me. It was down to everyone that we lost. That is football and you have to take the highs with the lows.

"I didn't get carried away after scoring against Chelsea and I won't get carried away with this low."
