Transfers - Gossip Shop: Rio to Newcastle?

Eurosport - Tue, 07 Apr 14:37:00 2009

Could Rio Ferdinand be set for a shock switch to Newcastle United after he was spotted hobnobbing with Toon assistant manager Iain Dowie?

FOOTBALL Manchester United Ferdinand - 0

The injured Manchester United defender sat next to Dowie during the dramatic 3-2 win over Aston Villa and they were seen deep in conversation.

A similar logic led scurrilous rumour-mongerers to link Philip Neville to Internazionale so we thought we should follow suit.

In reality, it has about as much chance of happening as Kaka moving to Manchester City.

Anyway, Dowie has a home in nearby Bolton and was probably only at Old Trafford to check out Villa, who Toon will almost certainly have to beat on the last day of the season if they are to stay up.

Speaking of Kaka, Bernabeu propaganda rag Marca have stated that Milan will agree to sell him to Real Madrid for 60 million euros, that he will agree to move and that it will happen when Florentino Perez is elected president, which we need not bother querying, even though Perez has yet to confirm his candidacy.

While it is a far more likely transfer than that of the Brazilian playmaker to Manchester City, halving the transfer fee from that which was agreed earlier this season will surely draw the likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Barcelona into the bidding.

In yet more Nostradamus-esque crystal gazing from Marca, Madrid are also tipped to be preparing bids for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso and Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas, both Spain stars who would please the fans while giving whoever happens to be in charge an excuse to get rid of Guti.

Amr Zaki's agent is still optimistic that the homesick Egypt striker can seal a deal to stay at Wigan despite going AWOL for a fourth time this season following international duty.

"I talked to Steve Bruce on Friday morning and we talked a lot about the press release on Wigan's website," agent Nader Shawky said in reference to Bruce's heavy criticism of his player.

"Bruce is mad about Amr's delayed return to the team while players from South America had already returned - even the injured players.

"We have sent medical reports to Wigan which state that the player should get rest for a week, whether here in Egypt or there, but they want him to get back in order to check his status for themselves.

"The problem between Amr and Wigan could be solved and it is going to be solved, especially as Bruce wants Zaki to continue his spell with Wigan."

Everton boss David Moyes has refused to be drawn on whether he will sign on-loan Manchester City striker Jo at the end of the season.

Jo had a torrid time at Eastlands, with only one league goal in just under five months, but he has hit five in seven for the Toffees.

"Let's just say he is doing really well," Moyes said.

"I've seen him improve in training and his match fitness has got better."

  8. The truth is Rio was asking about whether to go to Palace or Charlton next season. Dowie told him Charlton were totally S h i t while Palace are trying to be but that is only because Warnock keeps talking so much of it. Problem is Rio likes Warnock's tactics - he hasn't any and Rio likes that because he won't have to think too much!! Come you Eagles!!!
