Wed 07 May, 06:00 PM

Long-serving Walsall duo Ian Roper and Darren Wrack are among nine players not to be offered new contracts as the club starts a clearout.Defender Roper is a product of the Saddlers youth system and signed professional terms with the club in May 1995, while former Derby and Grimsby midfielder Wrack celebrated 10 years at the club with a testimonial against Wolves last week.

This season's top scorer Tommy Mooney is set to end his career in Spain with Marbella.

The remaining players to be released are Bertrand Bossu, Michael Dobson, David McDermott, Stefan Moore, Alassane N'Dour and Edrissa Sonko.

"We would like to thank each and every player for their hard work and effort. We would especially like to thank Darren Wrack and Ian Roper for their service to the football club," said chief executive Roy Whalley.

"Some difficult decisions have been made as we look to develop a squad capable of making further progress at this level and build on the foundations that have already been laid."
