Premier League - Bendtner apologises over photos

Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner has apologised to the club and their fans after being photographed outside a nightclub following the Champions League semi-final defeat by Manchester United.

The Denmark international striker, 21, was pictured leaving a London nightclub at 4am in the morning with his belt undone and jeans pulled down before being helped into a waiting car.

"I love this club and was so disappointed to lose against Manchester United last (Tuesday) night," the Dane, who came on as a second-half substitute, said Arsenal's website.

"Reaching a Champions League final is one of my biggest dreams and getting knocked out was a massive blow," he said after Tuesday's 3-1 loss and 4-1 aggregate defeat.

"However, no matter how disappointed I was, it does not excuse my behaviour later in the evening. I may be young but my actions were a poor error of judgement and something I deeply regret. I want to apologise to the club and the fans for letting them and myself down."

Bendtner has struggled to win over the club's fans this season despite scoring 14 goals in all competitions.

  5. Arsenal's defeat: Kenyan fan commits suicide
FOLLOWING Arsenal's exit in the Champions League, due to a 4-1 aggregate thrashing dished out by English rival Manchester United, an avid Gunners fan killed himself and was found dead still wearing his Arsenal shirt, police confirmed. Suleiman Alphonso Omondi, 29, from Embakasi, Nairobi, in Kenya, watched the match in the pub but when the realisation dawned on him that his side was crashing out of the Champions League, he became inconsolable, and left the tavern in fits of tears, Calvin Otieno - one of Omondi's friends - explained to AFP. "We were watching the match at Bamba 70 pub, and when Arsenal were defeated, Suleiman just walked out in protest and he was crying," Otieno said. "We didn't know he was going to hang himself until this morning, when we received the reports and came here to find his body at the balcony." Arsenal is one of the most popular clubs in Africa, and the Premier League and Champions League are among the hottest football fixtures on the continent. They are more widely watched than Africa's own domestic competitions.

I agree with your assessment, up until you call the stupidity 'liberal dogma'. A liberal approach would be to say, let him have a pint.

I think you really have a problem with 'Outraged of Tonbridge Wells' - who probably reads the Daily Mail and isn't a liberal.

Otherwise, yeah mate, I'm with you!

And thirdly why wasnt he drunk? that time of night. Giving him big money is a waste of time, give it to someone that knows how to enjoy a drink or two like errr..Joey Barton

  18. I don't understand the point of this. I am an arsenal fan and a Bendtner fan and fair play if he wants to let off steam and disappointment on a night out why not. At least it wasn't the night before the match and that hindered his performance. I'm sure we've all drowned our sorrows with our mates when things haven't worked out. He's only human and why shouldn't he have a night out. Its not like Arsenal players get snapped all the time like other teams. Let him have a life, he's just like us.

  20. Can someone please explain what the fuss is about? Did he get charged with assault or affray or something? Why is this a news item? This is right up there in terms of news worthiness as headlines such as "Man finds 50p in street" or "Woman had sex with her husband".
