Sunderland goalkeeper Craig Gordon has been ruled out for the rest of the season with the Scotland international pencilled in for a knee operation this weekend.

The 26-year-old has seen his second season on Wearside following his £9 million move from Hearts seriously disrupted by fitness problems with the latest setback ruling him out of the Black Cats' battle to stay in the Premier League.

Gordon told the club's official website: "I'm going to have it done on Saturday and hopefully that can sort out the problem as it's been a frustrating time for me.

"There's only three weeks of the season left so obviously that's the end of my campaign.

"There'll be a period of rest and recovery and then I'll start my rehab so I'm ready for pre-season training."

  1. I cannot believe there are S/land fans out there praising Gordon's performance throughout the season. He is one of the worst Keepers ever to wear a S/land Badge. He was vastly overrated and over priced and would probably be okay in the championship league or bck up in Scotland, but no ood in the EPL.
He doesn't talk to his defense, or control what goes on in his six yard area. For a keeper to be so tall ,he makes a hard job of collecting any crosses from either flank.
So any of you other premiere league supportrs who want Gordon then tell your manager s to come and bid for him because as far as i am concerned he can go to anyone who wants him and good bloody riddence to bad rubbish

  3. Craig Gordon is a good keeper? wake up, put a cross on top of him and he starts flapping at it, he is poor at best, but i can't think of a keeper in your league that is good, so that maybe why you think he is a good keeper, it may be a blessing that he is out as you may escape the drop.

  8. I believe you're wrong. The amount in question is actually £300,000, and IMO he's worth every penny. In spite of the terrible schoolboy defence he had in front of him, last season he kept us in the EPL almost single handedly with some outstanding goalkeeping. Gordon is the best we have -- we should be looking to move other layers on, although some fans denigrate him , unfairly in my opinion.

  9. Is it not the case that if Gordon plays 1 more game we have to pay another £1 million for him.
