Berner braced for Championship challenge

Thu 07 May, 02:48 PM

Defender Bruno Berner is already focusing his attentions on helping Leicester to a second successive promotion.

The Foxes were crowned League One champions after last month's 2-0 victory at Southend and the 31-year-old believes they can continue that form into next season's Championship campaign.

He told the Leicester Mercury: "I just can't wait to play in the Championship. The fans hope for the play-offs and so do we.

"We will have a strong squad and we want a strong start. The momentum is with us and why not in the Championship? The manager has told us to come back strong and I am sure we will.

"The competition for places will be greater. You need to deliver and it starts again from new so it is very important to be fit and ready. I am an experienced player and I will be ready."

Meanwhile, manager Nigel Pearson was beaten in his quest to claim the manager of the month award for April, which instead went to MK Dons boss Roberto Di Matteo.
