Mowbray aware of Championship challenge

Thu 07 May, 05:07 PM

Tony Mowbray believes West Brom will not find it any tougher than two years ago to regain their Barclays Premier League status at the first attempt.

Albion, who could have their relegation confirmed at the weekend, went down at the end of the 2006-2007 campaign from the top flight but responded by winning the Coca-Cola Championship at the first attempt and scored more than 100 goals in the process.

And Mowbray is confident Albion will not be faced with a tougher challenge next season, saying: "It is always very competitive but, is it a more difficult league than two years ago? I don't think so."

He added: "Is the Championship harder now than two years ago? I wouldn't suggest so and I have watched a fair bit of Championship football.

"I think it is very similar league with a lot of teams in the mix. Reading were the last team that ran away with the Championship with a huge number of points two years ago.

"I don't think there has been any 'outstanding' team that has ran away with this league and, yet, it is very competitive."

Mowbray already has it clear in his own mind what will be required for next season in terms of which type of players will be needed to strengthen the squad and those surplus to requirements.

He said: "I think I know everything about our players now. I don't think anyone needs to push for their cause or fight for their careers.

"I know pretty much everything about our footballers and will ultimately make decisions about them when the time is right.

"I don't think one great game now is going to make too much difference about whether we are keeping anyone or letting them go."

  1. Kenneth K: Whats wrong with Brunt and Bednar? Our top scorers on 6 & 8 goals. Brunt has been played out of position most of the season and been in and out so didnt get a run of games. Now he has, he has scored a few goals and put in some decent performances. As for Bednar, this guy helped get us up last year with his goals, and was top scorer for most of the season even when it is completely obvious that Mowbray has fell out with him. Rumours are that he hit Mowbray at the training ground before the Spurs game. At least he provides effort unlike Simpson and Moore!

miette, brunt, kim, and bedner make up the rest of your buys tell the truth mowbray reality is when it comes to `knowing our footbalers` you know F**K all what you dont know is we loyal wba fans have been telling you this all season but you are to thick skinned to listen so is it fair to say that all of above are `surplus to requirements`
