La Liga - Ronaldo hits four as Real destroy Sevilla

Cristiano Ronaldo scored four goals in a 6-2 shredding of Sevilla that will delay Barcelona's title celebrations beyond the weekend.

A defeat for Jose Mourinho's side in Seville would have handed Barca the chance to claim their third straight Spanish title with a win over Espanyol on Sunday, but that never looked likely at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Real were dominant from the opening whistle as they recovered in some style from the disappointment of being eliminated by Barcelona in the Champions League semi-finals.

They completed a sustained spell of pressure on 21 minutes when Sergio Ramos rose to power home Mesut Ozil's corner from six yards out.

Cristiano Ronaldo added a second with his 30th goal of the season when he controlled Karim Benzema's cushioned header from Marcelo's pinpoint delivery before finishing with some ease.

Kaka added a third goal on 42 minutes when he accepted a lovely little pass from Ozil to bend the ball beyond the bamboozled Sevilla keeper Javi Varas from the edge of the area.

Alvaro Negredo scored the first of his two goals on 61 minutes when he converted from the edge of the box only to provide a slipshod pass that enabled Ronaldo to make it 4-1 for the visitors on 65 minutes.

Ozil supplied another telling pass for Ronaldo to complete his hat-trick on 70 minutes and 5-1 advantage before Benzama crossed for Ronaldo to slip home his 33rd league of the season on 75 minutes.

He is two clear of Barca's Lionel Messi in the race for La Liga's top marksman.

Negredo nodded a consolation on 84 minutes, but the referee decided to avoid adding several minutes of stoppage time as Sevilla were put out of their misery early.

Real are five points behind Barcelona. They have three games left in La Liga with Barca having four more to play.

  4. This is a joke............how can this guy rack up these numbers for his club whilst scoring only 26 goals in 80 appearances for Portugal?

He is no comparison for the REAL Ronaldo................yes, the Fenomeno who scored 62 goals in 97 appearances for Brasil. There will only ever be one Ronaldo, and that is the one who produced for his country as well as his club. As Zidane says ......Ronaldo of Brasil, is without hesitation, the BEST player I have ever seen playing.

BRAKING NEWS: Madrid president Perez has decided to make madrid fans happy. He is building a time machine to take all madrid fans back to their glory days when franco used to win them trophies. Perez knows that money can't buy madrid success after he found out for himself after spending over 450m euros in 2 seasons. He knows he can't stop Barca even with the money that they get from the king, spainsh tax payers money and the banks. He knows that madrid fans are not happy now, so he is building the time machine to take madrid fans back to their glory days and make them happy. In fact it will make the whole world better. A world without arrogont madrid fans and madrid players lige gaynaldo, ramos, calvarho, and especially their staff like the special translator. To you madrid fans, keep talking about the past but the truth is you are living in the present. And for you gaynaldo lovers, let him have 2 extra tap in goals over Messi in la liga, but Messi has 52 goals in all competition over at age 23, wait for Messi to turn 26 and you will see world cup winner in Messi at that age. Also madrid fans, enjoy watching Barca lift La Liga and Champions League trophy. Visca Barca and haha madrid on that!!!

  12. '0, 36: your comment is as zero as- yo name. Athletico madrid beat fulham 3-0 in the europa final last year, there was villareal and 3 portuguese teams in the semis this year, no english, germany, scotish or italian teams. Which humiliation of spanish teams in europe are you talking about? As for spanish league being like the scottish league, its a matter of opinion, but i wonder how spain can put up a team that can win the european and world cup and be ranked number 1 in the world. Why cant england do the same if their league is so so good? Why cant the scottish do the same if their league is as good as laliga? Well thought out statements make more sense than sentimental ones!

  13. #36 O - raises the question of what exactly defines the "best" league - i have heard (and seen) people deriding the PL this season because the top sides have dropped points - and teams up in mid-table have been fearful of being involved in the relegation scrap because of the narrow points difference - i suppose it depends on your viewpoint - the spanish league has produced two very strong teams, capable of competing with anyone in the world - it is beyond doubt that the teams occupying 3rd and 4th in la liga would be struggling in midtable in the PL - the reason for this disparity though, is down to the allocation of the vast money from tv rights - in britain the PL negotiates and shares the money collectively - in spain, the teams make theirn own arrangements, thus ensuring that the barca/real madrid hegemony remains intact - as, they get all the money to buy the world stars, which means that the tv companies only really want their games on tv. whether or not the PL is "better" is irrelevant the collective negotiation of tv rights should remain and any change to it resisted.

  15. La Liga is a pathetic league and no better than Scottish league (wih an admittedly better Celtic and Rangers). Only two teams win anything and the rest are worse than rubbish; witness the various humiliations of the other Spanish teams in Europe. Best league? yeah right

  16. @bobbyhandsome17. Did UEFA have a hand in 70-30% possession in favor of Barcelona, before you spout rubbish about possessions being meaningless have a thought about the adverse effects of not having the ball. YELLOW AND RED CARDS. When Ramos was sent off in the last few minutes of the 5-0, it must have been because Barca were worried Real would score 6 goals in the last minute.

  17. Mourinho should not bother himself now, but when these corrupt UEFA officials are out, he should make a case. Other managers don't want to say anything because they are all afraid. Their lives depend on football. But Mourinho does not depend only on football. Time shall tell. Barca activities with officials will be revealed in no distant time. They will never go unpunished.

  18. Bobbyhandsome and lua mes! Please please please stop acting like little girls. Man up for gods sake. Do you have no shame? How long will you keep this up? Rightly or wrongly this is over now. Your team lost. Move on. Be happy with madrids great result last night. Be happy for ronaldo. Be happy that mou seems to be listening to the rest of the world and is changing his defensive tactics. Accept that barca are an exceptionally good team at the moment. Accept that since the beginning of football there have always been bad decisions that have gone for and against every team. I imagine you are both in your early teens and this is the first time you have experienced a perceived sporting injust. Man up, put up or shut up guys.

  19. Barca players are the greatest cheats I have ever seen. They play good football quite understandable. But they simulate referees to favour them. Mouriho should just relax is nerves for now and for some years to come. But he and other coaches who have been maltreated and cheated should make sure when this bunch of UEFA excutive corrupt officials are out, they should bring up their case to be investigated because for sure I know that there are many things that went wrong in Chelsea, Arsenal and Real Madrid matches that Barca won. We all remmenbered Juventus. They were playing good football and a team to recon with. But little did people know that they were cheats until the club activities were revealed. That's how it will happen to Barca.
