Sat 07 Jun, 05:30 PM

New Southend keeper Steve Mildenhall is out to take the number one jersey from Darryl Flahavan should the Shrimpers stalwart sign a new deal.Flahavan is soon to be out of contract and has yet to agree fresh terms but Mildenhall, who has joined Southend from Yeovil, is preparing himself for a battle to be Steve Tilson's first-choice keeper.

"Flavs hasn't signed yet, but if he does it will be good to work with him as we have played against each other a few times," he told the club's official website.

"Darryl is an excellent keeper, if he re-signs it will be a challenge but one I am willing to take on."
