Robins chief eyes European giant

Sat 07 Jun, 02:30 PM

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson hopes to arrange a home pre-season friendly against a top European club. The Robins' involvement in the Championship play-off final has left them behind in their preparations for the 2008/09 campaign.

Five away matches against local opposition have been set up, but a fixture at Ashton Gate and a tour is still missing from the schedule.

"Without knowing what division we would be in next season until May 24 we weren't able to book games against Premier League or Championship opposition," Johnson told the club's official website. "A few clubs promised they would wait for us but reneged on that.

"We should still get a home friendly but it will be against foreign opposition. We will try and get a good European side here at Ashton Gate."

As for a pre-season tour, Johnson added: "We are still fixing it up, but we should have some news soon."
