Transfers - Your view: Mascherano to leave?

Eurosport - Sun, 07 Jun 16:25:00 2009

News of Liverpool's financial problems has provoked rumours that Barcelona are to bid for midfielder Javier Mascherano.

2009 Liverpool Javier Mascherano - 0

How much of a blow would it be to Liverpool if they lost the tenacious Argentine from their midfield engine room?

Are Liverpool in any position to resist the advances of Barcelona in a £20 million bid comes in, with Real Madrid also interested in Xabi Alonso?

And do Barcelona even need Mascherano after claiming a remarkable treble, culminating in the Champions League final?

Have your say by clicking on the link to our message boards below the photo !

---

nibirufc: Yes, Barca do need him for the coming season, as they will have a lot of games and with Toure and Keita going to the African Nations tournament they need to bolster the squad, Mascherano fits the bill perfectly and hopefully they can offload Abidal in the deal. Villa, Mascherano, Felipe in; Hleb Gudjohnnsen Abidal out, and dominate Europe again!

Baby K: Liverpool don't "NEED" to sell neither Mascherano oor alonso, plus the fact is they have both already signed with Liverpool again. It's not the club that's in so-called financial problems it's the owners, and they have already said its not as bad as everybody is making out. Liverpool won't sell any of the main squad but will buy Tevez or Silva, if they sell anybody it will only make the "situation" worse.

micpando: I hate this type of story. We are not selling any of our star players. Whether the Yanks' loans are extended or not, we will strike against them to forcefully sell our beloved club to the Dubais. Please, Maschy is even vexed to have heard such story about him. You people should try to make up stories about other clubs not ours.

TR: Mascherano should leave Liverpool because Liverpool haven't won any cups this year. But Barca are champions of Eeurope and Cup winners and La Liga winners so Mascherano should move.

Varnavas P: I don't think Barca need him. Their midfield is full, with Iniesta, Xavi and Toure in the starting line-up, and Keita, Busquets and Gudjohnsen as subs. No, I don't think Barca should buy him

  1. It's interesting people saying the rats are leaving a sinking ship, Mascherano actually looks like a rat. I know it's a stupid thing to write, but he actually does.

  6. Mascherano has said he wants to stay with Liverpool.. enough said, Michael Owen apart which Liverpool players recently have left to join a club as big as Liverpool without being told they can go??.....however if Barca were offering £20mill plus yaya toure I'd take it as toure really impressed me playing out of position in the CL final.

  8. Simon; nice words mate, bit like me re how i got started with my team.

was 5 years old in 1970 and my uncle gave me a liverpool replica strip for my birthday and it just stuck, even though i lived in norfolk at the time.

we weren't a big club then and lost the '71 final to charlie george and at age 6 was crying when they lost.

had some good times and some @#$% ones too but your team is your team and no-one moves you from it.

    good luck to you mate.

  9. I don't think Manchester United have ever been running scarred. They are the current premier league champions, not second to someone else but the champions. I for one can not wait for next season to start, just to see the scouse muppets faces when as usual Liverpool either bottle it or blow it. If Beneathus is such a good manager how come Liverpool have not won anything for years. Mmmmm not just an interesting question but a FACT. LFC = YAWN. More words of wisdom from the Mmmmmmm0000000se.

I’m a ManUtd fan mate, and before any Liverpool fan brings up 'glory hunting' I have been a fan since the days when Liverpool dominated and we were always second. Kind of strange story how I came about following utd, I was a very young boy in the 80's when spurs met Man city in the fa cup final, I knew nothing about football then, so just chose Man City to win because they were a Manchester team, take into account this was the first ever game of football I had ever watched. Anyway to cut a long story short as time went by I somehow managed to mix them up with United and started following United’s scores every sat thinking it was the same Manchester side that I watched in the cup final, obviously then being only about 7 years of age my knowledge of football was bad so I never even knew there was a Man City and Man Utd lol. Never looked back though and stuck to United. ;o)

  11. All you manchester utd fans yes you had a great season and i congratulate you, but you go on and on about being the best in the world, thats ok in short doses but why do you have to go on and on. why dont you just let your team do the talking on the pitch? you need to learn some sportsmanship. Alex ferguson is a great manager and you are lucky to have him but if you took him away from the team as well then you would not be where you are today, i believe rafa is also a great manager and soon he will deliver for liverpool so you should watch out because the bigger you are the harder you will fall
    LFC for life
copy and paste this on to wherever man utd fans have a go at liverpool

  13. cfcbrian...hmmm..chesterfield football club brian? Obviously knows alot about football...

    From gary.ash3, on Mon 8 Jun 9:38PM
  14. Simon; that may be right but the current chelsea team can't win the european cup but quite a few of our current team HAS.

what team do you support then?

also, why is a chesterfield fan bleating on about scousers when his own team would LOVE to be where we are, even if we didn't win a trophy last year.

    you may all be banging on about LFC fans only going on about history, but you all need to remember what one great general said many years ago;

HISTORY IS WRITTEN BY THE WINNER............ as as we have won more major trophies than ANYONE else in Britain we still have 'written' the most history in regards to British football.

    simple fact.............. enough said.

From CARL, on Mon 8 Jun 8:42PM
  15. post 180 liverpool have won f-all mate so what are you going on about, history again i guess? those winning sides have long gone mate and your current team is not that same liverpool team.

  16. post 184 is a typical example of what cfcbrian has said about liverpool fans, all ifs and buts, no facts.

From Skittles, on Mon 8 Jun 8:07PM
  17. Brian thats an excellent post mate and bang on the truth, I noticed that these scousers think you are a chelsea fan because of your name, just goes to show how narrow minded and blinkered they really are. Scousers for your information cfc brian is a 'chesterfield' fan.

  18. Liverpool will return to the top of the premier league next season for sure, the reason why all the mancs make such stupid comments on this article is because they are running scared. Torres, gerrard, alonso, macherano, kuyt and carragher would all breeze into the man utd team. All the man utd supposed fans commenting on this just cements what is fact, man utd are running scared and they know it !!! As for the comments on Everton being superior to Liverpool, I agree that David Moyes is doing a great job with no money, but then so is Benitez !!
