Manchester City midfielder Elano admits he may leave the club if he does not receive reassurances over his future.
The 27-year-old has grown increasingly frustrated at not being a regular under manager Mark Hughes and has been strongly linked with a move to Inter Milan.
Gareth Barry has already joined the club this summer and with City set to continue spending, Elano could be set to leave.
"I had a meeting with the board and I asked about the signings they are going to make and whether there was still a place for me in the setup," he said.
"I just asked them to be straight with me. If I can renew my contract now, I'll stay. If not, I want to leave and look for another club."

Elano was brilliant last season and as a man city fan all of oyou saying hes not good enough to play for city i dont see you there doing what he done for us your not true city fans. hughes messed him up not playing him this season because under sven he was sick and Rik M saying robinho is not a real player without his 14 goals this season we would of been relegation threatened
Let him go, hes shown his true colours hes got no loyalty or respect towards the club !!!!
Elano and robinho have never been PL players. They're diminutive, flashy and have weak mentalities - they'd do best in the Serie A.
man city would be best off selling Elano and trying to get their hands on people like Moussa Sissoko - strong, fast, mentally strong and a good passer. Fellaini would be best - but I don't want him to leave Everton.
As for Robinho - man City should sell him to juventus (who have 3 target men and not a single finisher who's under 32 years) and buy eto'o from barca.
Elano is quite simply not good enough to warrant a starting berth over Stephen Ireland, which means there isn't really a place in the starting 11 for him, especially after we've signed Barry.
He undoubtedly has skill and has played well sporadically, but his ball retention (why pass it simple when a raking 40 yard pass that ends up out of play can be attempted) and goalscoring contribution from open play has been v disappointing, whilst he has tended to turn it on against the poorer sides in home games. His corners are also diabolical.
Worth keeping as a squad player/option but he won't be happy with that so let him go - the team will not suffer as a result.
whilst there is no doubt he is classy and skillful, he needs to be more consistent. i don't think he's hughsey's type of player though, and given that hughes looks as if he's staying, we may well loose a very gifted footballer and replace him with another hughes workhorse
Paul G, have you actulaay watched him since Xmas 2007? He has played well in 4 matches since then. 4 in 18 months isn't enough to impress me, i'm afraid. You're too easily pleased. Give me SWP and Superman anyday.
Why would Cirty let him go persuade him to stay he is class i agree with everyone here and i aint a City fan.I don't understand why he wasn't played as much last season it must have been Mark Hughes tactics and i can see why Elano is angry about not being played.
haz_r has no clue. Anyone who watched Elano this season knows he is class.
Check out his goals for Brazil -- yeah, he plays for Brazil and has to fight Hughes for a place in a top10 premiership team. HAHAHAHA
Elano is not the problem -- HUGHES is the problem
A new contract when he is only half way through his current one, as was very dissapointing this season? Dream on Elano. Pull your socks up, stop sulking, and try playing like we know you can. Then you'll get your beloved pay rise. CTID
Swansea have a managerial vacancy...I know the ideal candidate.
Keep Elano...get rid of the journeymen thugs and the manager and his henchmen.
Keep Elano, get rid of Hughes amd his journeymen thugs, bring in a Manager who can attract the best to the club not the rest
Elano to stay.Keep the class, sell the rubbish.
He is a Quality player would not want to see him leave Man City
