Hreidarsson interested in Rangers

Sun, 07 Jun 10:42:05 2009

Hermann Hreidarsson has revealed he would be interested in joining Rangers if he leaves Portsmouth this summer.

The veteran Iceland defender, 34, is out of contract at Fratton Park but is waiting for Pompey to appoint a new manager before making a decision on his future.

He said in the News of the World: "Rangers would be a good club for any player to move to, especially when they have the Champions League coming up next season."

He added: "I would be interested but as yet nothing's been offered - at least nothing concrete.

"I'm still waiting on Portsmouth to appoint a new manager. I will have a word with him and see what he's got to say. But I would look upon the Scottish League as a good, new challenge for me."

Meanwhile, on-loan midfielder Aaron Niguez looks set to cut short his stay at Ibrox and return to Valencia this summer.

The winger, 20, has made just one start and three substitute appearances since joining Rangers in August.

Valencia sporting director Fernando Gomez said in the Sunday Mail: "We would have liked Niguez to play more matches in Scotland but, overall, we are pleased with his progression.

"It's been a beneficial experience for him playing in the Scottish Premier League. However, it's now time for him on come back."

  2. i just heard that Setanta are going bust, because they owe millions to the SPL and The Premier league for the stuff they have already shown and cannot afford to pay them...anyone heard anything about this???

  3. ,maybe you dont have any problems Black, but a large portion of your fellow supporters do,the same can be said at Ibrox,if we all had your laid back, couldnt give a f**k attitude then perhaps the spl would be a happier place to be,unfortunately,a lot of people see it differently, you can run religion on a football chant,or the other way about if thats what you want, but at the end of the day bigots are on both sides, the sooner you admit that you are not all perfect and its just us that are the bad uns,the sooner we can stop slagging each other off(as supporters)and concentrate on slagging off the mutton molesters.

  4. You are though, How many times in British history has a football club promoted a "one minutes APPLAUSE (the glasgow celtic way i quote)" on rememberence day?.

Once, and that "once" was because Irish Celtic fans along with the very ignorant and disgusting scottish portion who had threatened to boycot a minutes silence, strengthening this point being the abuse given to Hearts poppy-sellers.

  5. Metz, Ain't you been reading what I posted. I have no problem with where we play. I don't think everyone is out to get us. I have no problem with what flags Rangers fly, Hearts fly, Hib, Dundee Utd or any other team for that matter. It's not for me to say what flags they should and shouldn't fly. I just don't understand why you have a problem with us flying a flag that means something to US. We're not ramming anything down anyone's throats.

  6. Try reading through MY post before being sceptical.

Wether or not the national flag of the Republic of Ireland means religous peace or not is irelivent. Celtic Football Club has a problem where alot of their fans wave the flag of a foreign nation, and do it to, as i previously elaborated, show their support to a predominantly Catholic nation in response to the Protestant irish influx from the Famine.

The waving of this flag, along with red-hands at Ibrox, are symbols of religious support, wether you believe that or not is for you to dispute.

Celtic is a Scottish football club, representing the Scottish Football Association. It has Irisih roots, but in -NO- way does the club represent anyone but Scotland, and to an extent, the United Kingdom.

The same here applies to Rangers aswell, although i still disagree to a small extent, a Union Flag is a more appropriate flag than symbols of Irish history.

I find it astonishing however, at the severe lack of Scotland flags at Celtic, and find it further embarassing that your club refused to put the national flag on their strips, instead inventing a very ugly and un-popular "Celtic Tartan".

  7. Ali k, Trying reading through the debate before making a comment. And the tri colour represents peace between catholics and protestants. Green (Catholic) White(Peace) and Orange (Protestant). It is not a sectarian or sectarian orientated flag . Again, Irish republicanism is not sectarian. try reading point 14. And can anyone tell me at what point I said Rangers shouldn't fly a Union Jack.

  9. Its not about de-irishing you so stop being so paranoid, its about having pride in the country/city where you play,I agree there are too many red hands at Ibrox and few scottish flags at parkhead, but thats west of scotland for you.You play in Scotland so deal with it,listening to you is as bad as listening to the english harp on bout 1966,nothing wrong in being proud of your roots but dont ram it down other peoples throats from now until doomsday, you were formed by 2 catholic priests,ok we get it doesnt mean you have to wallow in it,like I

From METZ, on Mon 8 Jun 1:26PM
  10. Who are you kidding? Celtic fly Tri Colours because they are something they arent.

Flying a tri colour is like flying a red-hand. Its sectarian-orientated, wrong, and has absolutly NO place in Scottish society.

Anyone who wants to argue the point of union flags, need check the history of the flag, which flags it combined to make, and while your at it, the Act of Union 1707.

From ali k, on Mon 8 Jun 1:15PM
  11. Metz, sorry but I don't agree. Rangers fans fly the red hand of Ulster. Manchester United have flown a tri-colour. Many clubs fly the flags of their international players. And an American flag does fly in Dublin. As does a Union Jack, a French flag and many others. You'll see them at Embassy's. Where national ambassadors live. They represent their nations in Dublin. A bit like how Celtic represents a community with an Irish history in Scotland. You are right about one thing though. You don't see many soltaires in the crowd at Celtic park. Maybe there should be more. But that doesn't mean we should stop flying the tri-colour. Why are Rangers fans so pre occupied with insisting that Celtic should be de-irishised? What is so offensive about us?

    From Black47, on Mon 8 Jun 1:08PM
  12. Black,no doubt it would be fun,but you have to admit that no other club anywhere in the world flies another nations flag at their ground ,if the history means that much too you,why not get into the Irish league?Lets face it most of your homegrown talent would rather play for the green of oirland than the blue of Scotland,I know you lot have history from Ireland but this is 2009 not 1888,get with the times, very rarely do you see a soltire flying in the jungle, would you be ok if their was an american flag flying in dublin because of history?Or come to think of it a Fench flag in Scotland.you have to agree it is a bit of one rule for us anotha for everyone else.

From METZ, on Mon 8 Jun 12:28PM
  13. Metz, I'm sure it would be a long drawn out debate. And I'm sure it would be fun. On the subject of the flag, I think we have every right to fly the tri-colour. Its part of our history. And if Rangers chose to fly the St. Georges cross, then I wouldn't have a problem with that either. Everyone should have the right to celebrate their history in a manner that is unoffencive to others. I don't see how an Irish flag can be offensive to anyone. We do fly a St.Andrews cross too. And if we have englishmen in our squad, we fly the St.Georges cross.

  14. #30 Hey Stuart, wheres this manager you promised would be in place today? Had you down as delusional but not a bull@#$%ter,anyone taking the job is at best 4th/5th choice, great motivation for the individual concerned to do a good job, whats the problem? Cant find anyone who is septic minded enough?
