Crewe duo miss out on Bulgaria

Mon 07 Jul, 02:00 PM

Crewe duo Calvin Zola and Gary Roberts have not travelled to Bulgaria with the rest of the squad but have different reasons for staying.Zola is concerned about re-entering the country after previous problems and he was only recently granted another work visa.

The £200,000 signing from Tranmere will instead undertake an individual training programme at the club's training ground.

Roberts has been left behind after it was decided he was "not in the right frame of mind". The midfielder is currently on the transfer list, although there has been little interest in him so far.

First-team coach Steve Holland told the club's official website: "People will say I have a problem with Gary, but every time I could I picked him last season.

"I picked him more than 40 times and I know the level he is capable of reaching but as we've said before it is up to him. He could do really well in his career, or he could fall frustratingly short but only he can make that decision because he certainly has the ability. It is just a question of him applying himself better."
