Ferdinand happy to stay a Hammer

Mon 07 Jul, 07:30 PM

Anton Ferdinand has reiterated that he is more than happy to stay at West Ham should a move away from Upton Park not materialise this summer.Ferdinand has been linked with moves to Tottenham, Aston Villa and Newcastle this summer but the Irons' asking price has so far put off the defender's suitors.

And the 23-year-old will not complain if that situation does not change before the start of the new season.

He told BBC London: "I'm happy at this club, and until I get told I'm not a West Ham player, I will be a West Ham player. I've grown up at the club and I enjoy playing here.

"Should it happen that I leave West Ham, I know I'd be able to go with my head held high."

Ferdinand has already held talks with Alan Curbishley over his future at the club and he expects further discussions in the near future to determine whether he is staying in east London.

"I've spoken to the manager briefly and he wants to get it sorted as quick as possible too, which is a good thing for me," he added.

  2. I wouldnt mind him at newcastle got to be better than rio plus some new blood in defence might do us some good.

  3. Why all these digs at Anton? Ever since he swapped positions with Repka from
right back to centrehalf (and visa versa) Both players were outstanding. Last
season and this he was desperately missed in the heart of the defence.West ham
would have gone down without him last season and would have not had a top ten
finish this season without his contribution.James Thomkins has great potential
but was responcible for letting in more goals in five games than Anton Ferdinand
has been in three years. No disrespect to Thomkins but there is no substitute for
experience and at only 23 Anton already has an old head on young shoulders and
one day could be West Ham captain with Thomkins playing next to him.

  5. Get rid of him. thinks he is as good as his brother but he aint.He cost us a lot of goals the last 2 years when he goes walkabout. He thinks he is better than he is and would not even make it in a fulham team.Might be good enough for villa though.
