Crewe first-team coach Steve Holland is hoping to hold onto striker Nicky Maynard despite interest from Premier League and Championship clubs.Maynard, 21, who came through the club's Academy, managed to score 15 goals in the second half of the season after recovering from injury.

Holland insists he has the young player's interests at heart but is reluctant to let him leave the club.

He told the official website: "I'm dreading that call coming for Nicky because we want to keep him here. I think he would benefit considerably by playing a full season with us, I think he has only played 50 games in his career so far.

"If we can avoid injuries, I think he has the ability to go on and finish as the leading goalscorer in League One next season."
