Super Aguri F1 assets to go under hammer.

Mon 07 Jul, 03:10 PM

Super Aguri F1 team's brief but plucky history set to finally come to a close when its assets go under the hammer at the end of the month.

The assets of the Super Aguri F1 team - which collapsed earlier this season due to chronic debts - are to be auctioned off at the end of the month.

The defunct Leafield-based outfit is currently in administration after its F1 dream died on 5 May [see separate story - click here], having competed in just 39 grands prix in the top flight since the beginning of the 2006 campaign.

It was confirmed over the weekend of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone, by British commercial and industrial auctioneer SHM Smith Hodgkinson, that the assets will go under the hammer on 31 July, F1SA reports.

The small Japanese Honda satellite is presently being administered by PKF.

Interested bidders will be able to view the lots, including cars and transporters, at Leafield late in July.

Over the course of its two-and-a-half year history in the uppermost echelon, Takuma Sato, Anthony Davidson, Franck Montagny, Sakon Yamamoto and Yuji Ide all raced for Super Aguri.

  1. I think the $100m penalty fund managed by MS should be used to buy the team as a way of feeding new drivers directly into the sport.
Ex. drivers such as MS, Brundle, Hill and DC could and should play an active roll in the mgmt and strategy. It should be subsidised by the sport as a whole.
It's an ideal opportunity to take a defunct team, create some great PR for F1 and secure some great opportunities for young drivers. Perhaps the new 'Go Motorsport' campaign could play a significant part also.

Please VOTE below if you agree with the scheme. Lets make it happen!

  2. I agre with Paul. It is too easy to forget that these 22 (now 20) drivers are the very best in the world, and that even the worst, is still a golden mile better than the rest. even "Pat to drive" drivers are bloody good, remember Damon Hill was a pay driver at Brabham, and yet is also a world champion. Whilst Yugi Ide may have been the worst F1 driver, that only makes him the worst of the best 22 in the world. I do not know about others who read and contribute here, but I know I wish I had only 1% of the talent that these guys have/ The guy who came last at this weekends GP has my undying admiration, on a normal sunday drive in the sort of visibility these guys had, I would have pulled over at the nearest lay-by and waited until it had al gone away. We all have our own favorites and opinions, and that is the beauty of a free society, but it is also important to understand that 99.9% of us could never get with a mile of these guys, and regardless of which driver or which team wins on a Sunday, makes this sport the best in the world for me.

  3. Unless you've been round a track in an F1 car like they have do you realy feel qualified to judge who's good and bad? The average joe would fill his boots on the first application of the brakes and as for the acceleration, I've spoken to a jet pilot who had a ride in two seater Minardi and it just blew him away! These guys don't just turn up and pay the money like some glorified kart track, they are serious people doing a serious job. Sure, sponsorship plays a huge part in who gets to drive, but these decisions are not taken lightly. It's very easy to criticise from the safety of a keyboard. Not everybody is a Senna or a Schumacher, and the guys in the slower cars aren't necessarily bad drivers, just look at how many champions came through from the lesser teams to win the big prize.

  4. Yugi Ide was the worst F1 driver in history. He was more like a kamikazi rather than a driver. I don't think he ever finished a race
