Premier League - Zhirkov 'a Chelsea player'

New Chelsea manager Carlo Ancelotti has revealed the club have signed Yuri Zhirkov from CSKA Moscow.

Speaking at his first press conference, the Italian said: "Zhirkov, (Daniel) Sturridge - these are Chelsea players."

The winger will follow striker Daniel Sturridge into Stamford Bridge as the Blues build for next season's campaign.

The club confirmed on their website that a fee had been agreed for the Russian but said the deal was still subject to a medical and agreement on personal terms.

"Zhirkov is naturally on the left. I think he can do all the work and can play in defence and in between," Ancelotti said of the 25-year-old.

However, the former Milan boss refused to confirm Deco and Ricardo Carvalho would be leaving west London despite the pair being heavily linked with Inter Milan.

He said: "Carvalho and Deco are chelsea players.

"If in the future a player wants to go they have to speak with the club and we take the right decision for the player and for us."

    I dont agree that it is the case that we­ didnt put are chances away, but more of a case that we­ didnt make many last season at home.
    The problem was­ Torres was injured for alot of last season and are­ midfield didnt really fire in the first half of the­ season.
    Its just my opinion but i think another­ creative midfielder would be the best person to join­ Liverpool and we should give are younger forwards a go­ in the first team

  6. Zhirkov, on paper, is an inspired signing. I hope he­ 'fits', but he is probably at his peak, and is­ a great worker. However, I do agree with­ "dezzyfiesta", and have some concerns about a­ bit of a shortage of out and out 'hitmen'.­ Never the less, good move Ancelloti.

Would Chelsea not be better off­ signing a striker so that if Drogba throws another­ hissy fit this season he can just be shown the door.­ Too many players in the team that have too much power­ in areas where players shouldn't be involved is one­ of Chelseas biggest problems.
