Preston defender Liam Chilvers has committed his future to the club by signing a two-year contract extension.Chilvers became a regular first team player under Paul Simpson last season and forged a solid partnership with Sean St Ledger at the heart of the Lilywhites' defence.

The 25-year-old has now signed a new deal that will keep him at Deepdale until 2010, with Preston retaining the option to extend the deal until 2011.

Simpson told the club's official website: "When he came in to this club it was a case of showing he could perform at this level and his contract is a reward for what he did and to bring him in line with the rest of the squad.

"It was a real bonus for myself how Liam and Sean St Ledger performed last year. They were excellent and hopefully we will all benefit and they can perform even better this coming season."
