The Blues midfielder has been linked with a move to the Camp Nou for some time, with Lampard's recent failure to agree a contract extension at Stamford Bridge heightening speculation further.

But Barca vice-president Albert Vicens denied reports this weekend that his club had already opened talks with Lampard, with a view to a move in the new year.

He said: "I am in Ibiza on holiday and I am most surprised by this news because I am not in any negotiations," Vicens told Sport.

"We have never negotiated with Lampard about his arrival in January."
