Roman Bednar admits he has fulfilled a "childhood dream" by securing a permanent move to West Brom and playing in the "world's best league".The Czech striker always hoped that he would get the opportunity to test himself in the Premier League, and now that moment has arrived.
The 25-year-old helped the Baggies claim the Championship title last season while on loan at The Hawthorns, and having completed a £2.3million move this summer is hoping to play a major role in Tony Mowbray's plans in the upcoming campaign.
"We hoped that a permanent move would happen after a successful season where I scored 13 league goals, and four goals in the cups," Bednar told Sport.
"We also wanted the club to show that they appreciated me. Two weeks ahead of the new Premier League season we reached a final agreement and I am overjoyed at the possibility of playing in the world's best league.
"My childhood dream has come true."
Bednar admits that there is an air of anxiety currently surrounding the Baggies squad, but is confident that the club can compete in the top flight next term.
"Everyone is nervous rather than fearful," he said. "Last season we were under pressure all the time as we wanted to get promotion, but now the atmosphere has changed and we can't wait for the new season to start.
"We kick-off at Arsenal and clubs don't usually get a win at Arsenal, but I still believe we could spring a surprise and get a good result."
Bednar was partnered in the Baggies attack last season by Kevin Phillips, but has seen his striker partner leave for local rivals Birmingham this summer.
There have been numerous other comings and goings, but Bednar is adamant that the squad is settled and focused on the job in hand.
"There have not been many crucial changes," he said. "Although we will see how we get on without Kevin, who was the Championship's best striker last season.
"Also defenders James Hurst and Curtis Davies have left the club, but, on the other hand, Scott Carson has arrived from Liverpool, defender Marek Cech from Porto and more players are reportedly in negotiations."
