Former Stockport hero Liam Dickinson has backed the club to challenge strongly for promotion when the new season kicks off on Saturday.Dickinson quit County in the summer for Derby after helping Jim Gannon's side to reach League One last term.

They beat neighbours Rochdale 3-2 in the League Two play-off final at Wembley and Dickinson insists the club's progress will continue.

He said: "They've got a lot of very good young players and I'm sure they'll go on and do well in League One.

"I've still got a lot of very good friends there and will always be grateful to them for giving me a chance."
