Mark Hudson will captain Charlton on Saturday's league opener if fit after being confirmed as the club's new skipper by boss Alan Pardew. The centre-half was captain of fierce rivals Crystal Palace last season and moved across south London to join the Addicks after turning down a new deal at Selhurst Park.
Pardew lost last season's skipper Andy Reid to Sunderland in the January transfer window, and experienced midfielder Matt Holland wore the armband for the rest of the campaign.
But Pardew has opted to hand Hudson the role and he will lead his new side out against Swansea at The Valley on Saturday, providing he overcomes an ankle injury.
