Lawrence calls for bright start

Thu 07 Aug, 07:15 PM

Director of football Lennie Lawrence believes it is vital Bristol Rovers make a good start if they are to challenge for promotion this season.Rovers begin their League One campaign against Carlisle at the Memorial Stadium, and Lawrence insists that home form will be crucial to their chances.

"The pre-season has been good in terms of training and the games so hopefully we can carry that into the real thing," Lawrence told the club's official website.

"A lot depends on the start we make and if we can score enough goals at home this season. If we can do those things and keep players fit, then we will not be a bad side at all.

"Of the first three games, two are at home and one is away and that is crucial because even in the early league tables you have a chance of being up there.

"We need to send the fans home happy after the first two home games, starting on Saturday."
