Veteran Southampton defender Chris Perry is eager to get started as he prepares to embark on the 18th season of his professional career. The 35-year-old former Wimbledon, Tottenham and Charlton centre-half is set to line up in the heart of Saints' defence when they travel to Cardiff for their Championship opener on Saturday.
"I'm glad to get pre-season out of the way and get on with the proper thing," he said.
"I'm looking forward to the new season and playing with the younger players has been great.
"On Saturday we'll have it nailed down. I'm sure we'll be looking for a clean sheet, but if we don't get one and we win the game then I don't think I'll be too bothered.
"The crowd at Ninian Park are right at the side of the pitch and they'll be up and at it, but as long as we get the ball down and play then hopefully our quality will shine through."
