Premier League - West Ham split with Ljungberg

Eurosport - Thu, 07 Aug 07:08:00 2008

West Ham United have reached agreement with midfielder Fredrik Ljungberg to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

FOOTBALL 2008 West Ham Fredrik Ljungberg - 0

The 31-year-old, who captained Sweden at Euro 2008, was assessing his options, including whether to continue playing, the east London club said on their website.

"I gave my all at West Ham and enjoyed my time there but the decision is the best for the both of us. Now I will take my time to consider my football future," said Ljungberg.

He announced his international retirement in June after Sweden exited Euro 2008 at the group stage following a disappointing campaign.

Ljungberg joined West Ham last year after nine successful years with London rivals Arsenal.

West Ham said leading clubs in Europe, the United States and Asia were interested in Ljungberg, adding: "The decision to part company has been taken jointly and has no bearing on Ljungberg's fitness, which he proved at Euro 2008."

West Ham chief executive Scott Duxbury said: "We respect Freddie Ljungberg's position and are pleased we could reach agreement and wish him all the best in the future. This deal is mutually acceptable to both parties."

  1. how long will it take for arsenal players to understand the fact that the gunners play as a pack and they succeed playing that way, but if you think you are so good and wanna leave you will suffer cos no team play the arsenal way. the effect is you become frustrated and lose focus and then experience a dip in form, you may even lose interest in the game. am just playing but think about it though. LOL

  3. 5.Stu Hear what you say bruv in regard to the obscene amount of money to f*** that idiot swede into the distance(5 million). However,I never blame players in accepting stupid amounts of money offered to them by board directors.Would you refuse??? I think it just confirms how much money is available to both players and the 'hangers on' who work in football clubs.Until people like us stop sponsoring this bull**** with our Sky subs, entry fees, football shirt purchase etc. then we have no room to complain.GET REAL!!!

  4. Thank @#$% for that ,the useless @#$% was so @#$% my grandmother would have played better and she,s been dead twenty years, whoever signed him should be sacked, other clubs buy are young talent and in return we buy there shagged out has beens, when are we going to get someone in charge that can send us forward instead of the same old @#$% most of the top english players in the prem stem from west ham .I think once you sign for a club you stay there until you are 21 ,and a fixed wage in europe would help. How can you justify Rio earning 120k a week (@#$% week)when a heart surgeon earns that in a year.Paramedics earn less than 20k ayear whats going on .

  6. A lot of my respect for Freddie went when he dissed Arsenal. He had a great career winning many trophies playing for Arsenal, in an entertaining and attack minded side. Still, good luck on your next move Freddie and try not to say anything negative about the Hammers

  10. Well, best wishes to him...but I just wish he hadn't dissed the gunners the way he did when he left. It was totally unneccesary and disappointing coming from him..but there you go. It was said, he was still a great Arsenal player, so best wishes my man.
