Bundesliga - Toni and Ribery miss season start

Eurosport - Fri, 07 Aug 12:00:00 2009

Bayern Munich will be without French playmaker Franck Ribery and Italian striker Luca Toni when they take on Hoffenheim in their first game of the season, coach Louis van Gaal said.

"Ribery worked well but three training sessions are too few to integrate him into the team," the Dutch coach said.

Apart from the Frenchman, who has only just recovered from a knee problem, striker Toni will be out with a long-standing heel injury that also led him to miss part of last season.

The Bavarians will also be without central defender Martin Demichelis, who tore a ligament in training and is expected to be sidelined for at least six weeks.
