Glen Hall on Fire in Fistral

Fri, 07 Aug 14:41:00 2009

World Qualifying Series (WQS) leader, Dan Ross of Australia reaffirmed his position as one of the worlds top surfers yesterday, storming through the early stages of the 5 Star Relentless Boardmasters, in pumping six foot waves at Newquays famous Fistral Beach. Ross was joined in the quarter-finals by Animals Alan Stokes, the current UKProTour leader, and Irelands Glen Hall along with a number of the worlds best, such as precocious Hawaiian talent John John Florence and Brazils Wiggoly Dantas.

Dantas came up against French hopeful Joan Duru in the quarters, defeating the talented youngster by just 0.77 points to set up a semi-final showdown with Ross. Irelands Glen Hall has been in the form of his life, knocking out British hopeful and former World Tour surfer Russell Winter in Round 4, before going on to nail the highest heat total of the quarter-finals against Aussie sensation Matt Wilkinson.

The UKs famous Fistral surf spot has been churning out some of the best waves seen this year.

Australias Dan Ross was understandably stoked after requalifying for the ASP World Tour saying, It is really enjoyable to have fun waves here. The crowds are usually good and weve had great waves since the start so I had a great time competing today. That result is already a keeper for me and going over the 14.000 point mark so regardless of what anyone says, it should be fine for me to get back on the ASP World Tour.
