Germany goalkeeper Robert Enke has been ruled out of their World Cup Group 4 qualifier against Azerbaijan on Wednesday with an infection.

Enke had not been feeling well and was ordered to undergo medical tests, the DFB said.

"I am bitterly disappointed," said Enke, whose place in the starting line-up is likely to be taken by Rene Adler.

"But I feel I am not fully fit and I cannot take such a risk in a World Cup qualifier."

Germany top the group, a point ahead of Russia.
