FIFA supremo Sepp Blatter has called for tighter regulations on club ownership to deal with "out of control" investment in the Premier League.
Blatter addressed MEPs at the European Union on Monday when he outlined the need for greater controls over who is permitted to invest in the game.
The FIFA president blasted the super-rich investors willing to buy and part with clubs "like you would sell a shirt", citing the example of former Manchester City owner Thaksin Shinawatra, who sold up to Abu Dhabi United Group amid allegations of corruption in his homeland, Thailand.
"We have to be alarmed," Blatter said in The Times. "We have one Prime Minister from Thailand going back to his country and he sells his club like you would sell a shirt. Something is very badly wrong here.
"I don't know how it can be stopped, but there is always a danger that these people will just one day leave.
"You get people turning up with banker's guarantees who are not interested in football and then they lose interest in the clubs and leave. What happens to the clubs then?
"We are facing new investment in football, particularly the Premier League, that is out of control.
"English football is attractive to investors - it is a phenomenon of the era. The economic power of football is immense."
Blatter called on EU lawmakers to work with world football's governing body to draw up plans that would make it tougher for unscrupulous money men to make their profits and run.
"There are national laws in Switzerland, for example, when you buy property or make an investment, you must prove yourself. You have to prove your link with the area," he told BBC Sport.
"We must ask ourselves about what motivates these owners and are they really interested in the game or just making money?
"There must be better control of football's finances especially in the difficult climate we are facing. I urge UEFA to work with the EU to tighten up the rules, otherwise there will be big financial difficulties in the future."

I don't tell Sepp Blatter what to spend his money on, nor do I tell FIFA how to spend its money so yet agin he is sticking his nose in to business that does not concern him. The only reason he is so worried is because he knows just as everyone else does that Premiership football has overtaken international football in popularity and he is desperate to restrict that.
This is doomed to failure though as unless he sorts out these qualifying groups (something he could acheive easier if he spent more time on it than he does criticising the Premiership) the interest will dwindle even more. I ask you? Do ryou really expect to see a quick paced and exciting game when England play on Saturday or do you expect to watch us play against a team with 11 men behind the ball, learning nothing, trying nothing and achieving nothing?
Nedu N, you took the words out of my mouth. :o)
Hello sizey101
Before commenting on an English website you should first learn to write in English. You are not just a @#$%, but indeed a thick @#$%.
Greetings
He's spot on. Why have some loser looking after your team that
doesn't get what it's all about.
If it's not a hobby to them then it's money laundering.
Bring it back to being just a game.
Once again Blatter is commenting on English Football and the foreign ownership.
Could this be because no one wants to buy the French Clubs ?
A lot of jealousy here I think.
We all know how evident Blatter's 'Anti-British' football jealousy is, and I have to say I loved the fact there were 3 English teams in the Semis with an all English Champions League Final, Blatter & Platini were truly gutted..!
But on a serious note, how come he never mentions anything about the racists chants from Eastern European teams and especially Spain, the fact that most of the former giant clubs such as Real Madrid, Milan and Barca have all their football debts spent on 'big name players' wiped off by their local government, who publicly make it known all summer who they intend to buy before talking to the team, and not to mention the illegal match fixing fiasco and the violence that resulted in the deaths of rival fans and a policeman that went on in Italy a couple of seasons ago, that just seemed to be never mentioned again. I remember as a kid how ruthless FIFA were at maintaining all English teams were banned from European tournaments for years in the 80's...! It's so blatant how it's one rule for mainland Europe and another for British football, with Blatter and Platini coming up with something every year to try and prevent what is now the sheer dominance of British Football...!
It seems that Blatter has nothing better to do than comment on the Premier League. Finance in football has always been out of control, look at Real Madrid or the amount of money that was in Italian football in the 90's.
Through astute marketing and football that is genuinely attack minded (although I'm the first to admit it isn't always pretty) The Premier League has established itself as a global brand and as such has attracted investors. Like it or not football is a business. The rules of owning a football club vary from country to country but there has always been investment in the game, I suspect Blatters main concern is the amount of investment in the EPL and the knock on effect to the other European Leagues, whereas the questions that these leagues should be asking is how can we make ourselves more attractive to investors. I mean it says a lot and no disrespect to Hull when a player like Geovanni would rather ply his trade with the tigers (who are exceeding expectations) than some outfit on the continent.
And perhaps because teams like Hull can do the unexpected and beat Arsenal away from home is one of the reasons that the premier league is so exciting. However I do think that if such investment was being made elsewhere Blatter would be very quiet.
Maybe if you lot had seen what happened to Hearts. You would understand.
What would happen if your owner suddenly placed all your best players on the transfer market?
Sold them all for a profit and replaced them with loan deals and boys from the youth department?
Next thing you know. You're playing championship football. Using another teams stadiums for home games and losing 3-0 to leeds!.
As owners they can do whatever they want. Who is going to stop them?
Realise the power these people have. and lets be honest, They don't give a @#$% about your team. They just want to make money.
looks to me like the green eyed monster has taken over mr blatter, poor little diddums has spat his dummy out.
Blatter = @#$%
Do you guys not see what is happening. A great and simple game being hijacked. Tihs never was an "English" league - needed Welsh, Irish and for skills Scottish , players since it became professional and offered a better way of life to many. BUT the professional game does NOT control itself - weak FA controls and investoigations into "bumgs" (involving several Premiership managers allegedly).
Too much oney going out of game into thicko players pockets - the game run with no moral compass - (have ANY professionals ever refereed a match?).
One day its all gonna implode on itself. Something has to be done but the FA certainly won't - cos they appear to be secondry to the premiership bosses.
There - going for ali down now.
Why does this stupid man not just shut up? , why is he obsessed with Nationalities of people in England? Is he simply trying to destroy football in England beacuse our teams are always top?
Yes... lets move all the money back to Spain or Italy so their teams can start winning. Maybe move it to Wales and give Barry Town a chance at the title! Sorry Sepp, the Premiership plays the more exicting football , thus the money goes there...
For once...I agree with the man.
Blatter opening his stupid mouth again. He asks what happens when the foreign money men pack up and leave. What happens then? Well what happens when nobody with local links wants to buy a club? What happens then Mr Blatter? Idiot
Jealous old Blatter, get your toys back into the pram
