Haye at his heaviest for Valuev

Eurosport - Fri, 06 Nov 15:40:00 2009

David Haye tipped the scales at 15st 8lbs at the weigh-in for his WBA heavyweight clash with Nikolai Valuev in Nuremburg.

Haye looked in supreme condition as he pulled off his shirt to reveal a toned physique, but he has bulked up for the fight as it is the Londoner's heaviest weight for a bout - five pounds heavier than he weighed in against Monte Barrett and a pound heavier than his heavyweight debut against Tomasz Bonin in 2007.

Man-mountain Valuev weighed-in at 22st 7lbs, lighter than in previous bouts, meaning Haye is conceding almost seven stone in weight to his Russian rival.

Valuev is two stones lighter than his record weight and just five pounds shy of his lightest weight, 22st 2lbs, against Evander Holyfield.

The pair squared off for the obligatory photos and the size differential was staggering, despite Haye bulking up for the contest.

Haye's last bout came on November 15, 2008 against Barrett and there are concerns that his inactivity may count against him, but Valuev too has not fought since his points verdict over Holyfield in December 2008.

The fight is due to get underway at 9.30pm on Saturday and you can follow all the action on Eurosport-Yahoo! with our live round-by-round text commentary.

  5. This is too close to call. Valuev has the better chin but he is slow and he can be out boxed. However, that is not how Haye fights. Unless his camp know something else, it seems that he will be going for the KO. Foreman was old and slow but he caught up with Moorer. A haye win brings excitement back to the division.

  7. keep dreaming the lot of you. no respect has been shown to a very competent boxer who won his title on merit. i hope valuev shut his gob up for good, prerhaps haye will learn to respect the opponent if he ever fights again.

  8. To tyasmar....to compare haye with harrison is absurd.Win or lose you get an energetic performance from haye.I can't recall seeing 1 exciting harrison fight. As for the words? Most boxers say things they never would away from boxing to sell tv subscriptions.I can't remember anyone getting this upset when hatton run his finger across his throat when trying to goad mayweather.I think haye is good for the heavyweight division. What does everyone want...valuev v ruiz again?....no thanks

  9. Why dont you lot get off Davids back and give him support,I bet you lot wouldnt square up to bloke twice your size,Haye has got some guts and I hope he flies the flag for us.So quit slagging him off and get behind him.

  11. Valuev already lost against a shorter guy than Haye. It was Chagaev who at 1.85m stands 6cm shorter than Haye and 32cm less than Valuev. So where does the difference in size come in or should I say for the sake of having successfully promoted the fight ... much ado about nothing. Friedrich Welke, Florianopolis, Brazil

  16. i would truly like to see hayes take the big guy out,but I fear that the end of the fight you will hear the same excuses...I tried my hardest...I hit him with everyting exept the corner stool..The man is 7ft 2ins tall,22 stone, He didnt get to be the champion just for turning up at the weigh-in, he is what he is billed as..The BEAST f rom the EAST. If Hayes tries to stand toe to toe, then it will be early doors for him. I wish him like all the other heavy weights before him, the very best of luck...I hope my numbers come up on the lottery...Fat chance of that as well..From Big Al

  17. My money on Haye. He is fast, smart and can endure a battering. He will get a punch or 2 getting into Valuev and then he will start scoring valuable points.
